Budget Passed GA House and GOP Spending Priorities Introduced
On Thursday, the Georgia House passed HB 18, the Supplemental Appropriations Bill, 170-1
Rep. Matt Hatchett, the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, took to the well Thursday morning to present the amended FY 2023 budget. Rep. Hatchett mentioned how the Appropriations Committee headed the words of Governor Brian Kemp, who outlined his budget priorities in last week’s State of the State.
Two of Governor Kemp’s tax cut measures were included in the passed bill:
$1 billion in homeowner tax refunds. Working out to approximately $500 a house
$1.1 billion to fill the gap in the Department of Transportation’s budget due to the gas tax exemption which lasted 10 months.
$166.7 million in grants for the Rivian and Hyndai plant construction
$8.4 million to support Medicaid unwinding beginning April 1
Bill Dropped to Match Governor Kemp’s Priorities
HB 162: State income tax refunds. $250 for single filers, $500 for joint filers
HB 129: Expanding state Medicaid and TANF benefits
Both of these measures are introduced by Governor Kemp’s Floor Leadership team in the House, so they will most likely receive traction this session.
