Newly inaugurated Lt. Governor Burt Jones collected $167,212.50 from his GOP Senate colleagues throughout the 2022 midterm cycle.
All but one Senate Republican donated to Lt. Governor Jones’ campaign, with some Senators cutting a check from their personal and campaign accounts multiple times throughout the campaign.
It is still too early in the legislative session to see if these donations will affect legislative outcomes; however, Lt. Governor Jones has promised that every piece of legislation that comes forward will receive fair consideration.
He doesn't plan to unilaterally halt any legislation that senators move forward. "All legislation that gets introduced should get vetted," he said. (Axios)
This past week the Lt. Governor announced committee assignments and chairmanships.
Assignments of note:
Sen. Matt Brass who donated $10,000 to Lt. Governor Jones’ campaign will chair the Rules Committee
Sen. Brandon Beach who donated $7,600 to Lt. Governor Jones’ campaign will chair the Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee
Sen. Russ Goodman who donated $9,600 to Lt. Governor Jones’ campaign will chair the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee
